What happens in an Assessment?

We strongly advise a GP appointment prior to seeking and assessment for Developmental Coordination Disorder. A medical review is good practice to discuss concerns around motor skills. A doctor (GP, paediatrician, neurologist) may wish to undertake other tests, to make sure any other medical conditions which may cause reductions in motor skills are ruled out.

 

Once the assessment booking has been placed (via website) and payment made (by Paypal or bank transfer), our team will be in touch to confirm a suitable time and date for the Occupational Therapy assessment.

 

The initial questionnaires will be sent out via email, unless paper copies are requested. These should be completed prior to the assessment, so the occupational therapist has time to read through and prepare.

 

Your occupational therapist will make contact with you prior to the assessment date to say hello and go through the details of your assessment day.

 

The assessment will take between 2 - 3 hours. You may bring a family member or friend if you wish to do so.

 

Observation of movement and standardised tests will be used in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We aim to use the most appropriate, well researched and up-to-date assessment tools available.

 

There will be time for questions and discussion.

 

The report will be password protected and sent via email. A paper copy can be posted out upon request; however a charge is made for this.

 

After you have read through your report, if you would like to have the 30 minute follow up call, please contact your occupational therapist directly, as this is included in the assessment fee.
